Many locals regard the Dunluce course at Royal Portrush as the finest golf course in Ireland. Indeed, it is the only Irish course to ever host The Open. The layout has heaving dunes, cliffside holes, rolling, wild terrain. With that reputation, the trailer park located behind the green and to the right seems totally out of place.
Beyond that, Royal Portrush is glorious. The 1st immediately offers a severe test, with OB lining both sides of the hole off the tee. A fairway bunker on the left 260 yards from the tee pinches the already narrow fairway. In a crosswind, the first shot of the day becomes a nightmare.

The second shot is played to a green that is elevated and exposed to the elements. Just how deep is that bunker short and left of the green? It's like a JC drive at Ballyneal: Crazy deeeeeeep. Note how the edges of the bunker are shaved, helping to collect poor shots. There is another silly deep bunker left of the green, completely hidden from view when standing in the fairway.
