Over the years Erin Hills has had more major cosmetic alterations than Pamela Anderson. The 4th hole plays somewhat downhill to a fairly narrow fairway. The bunker off the right edge of the fairway must be avoided on the drive. The centerline bunker is only reachable for the biggest hitters.

The drive really isn't the problem at the 4th. The real problem for the golfer is the crazy shallow green. A right flag location, as shown in the second picture, is without question the most difficult segment of the green to access. Here, the green can't be more than 10 paces deep. The green has a false front and the back falls off sharply. The player's approach needs to be super exact and sticky in order for it to find the putting surface.
