Royal Portrush Par 4 4th Hole

Today GPW brings you three pictures of the par 4 4th hole at Royal Portrush, a hole measuring 457 yards.

The drive at the 4th is like teeing it up with the talented Wyatt; rather daunting. OB lines the entire right side of the hole. A nasty fairway bunker, located left center, 235 yards from the tee, waits to inhale a pulled drive. With OB right, the player must bravely thread a drive between the bunker and OB to have any hopes of making par. To make matters worse, this hole plays directly toward the sea, and thus, usually directly into the wind.

The green is literally ringed by low dunes. The opening in front is perhaps 15 paces wide. There is an absence of bunkers around the green.

A view from behind the green gives you a sense of just how narrow the 4th is. Like GPW's former marriage, there is very little room for error, errant shots are punished severely and without mercy.
